Statement: Voter Participation Center/Center for Voter Information Statement on Biden’s Voting Rights Speech

Washington, D.C. – In response to the Biden Administration’s speech today on voting rights in Philadelphia, Tom Lopach, President and CEO of the Voter Participation Center (VPC) and Center for Voter Information (CVI), released the following statement:

“President Biden today called the fight to protect voting rights “the test of our time.” As states across the country continue to pass dangerous anti-voter bills, the Voter Participation Center and the Center for Voter Information are fighting back. At VPC/CVI, we know that the best antidote to this nationwide assault on voting is to keep registering, informing, mobilizing, and turning out the New American Majority – young people, people of color, and unmarried women.

“VPC and CVI are also working tirelessly to challenge these dangerous state laws, encourage voters to support pro-democracy candidates, and urge Congress to pass a strong federal standard to protect voters. By coming together as a country, we can pass this test, protect our democracy, and ensure all Americans can make their voices heard.” 

The Voter Participation Center and Center for Voter Information are non-profit, non-partisan organizations founded in 2003 to help members of the New American Majority – unmarried women, people of color and young people – register and vote. Since then, the organizations have helped 5.7 million people register and cast ballots.
