Online Voter Registration

Yes, the District of Columbia has Online Voter Registration. Need DMV Issued ID Number or a Social Security Number. You can register online here.

Voter ID

District of Columbia has no voter ID requirements.


District of Columbia does have “no-excuse” vote-by-mail. Ballot requests must be made at least 7 days before Election Day. Ballot submissions must be received by the Board of Elections no later than 8:00 p.m. on Election Day.

Early Voting

District of Columbia has in-person early voting. Early voting starts 15 days before Election Day and ends the day prior to Election Day. Early voting is held at no fewer than 8 early voting centers, with at least one early voting center available in a central location within each election ward. Automatic Voter Registration (Motor Voter)

Yes, the District of Columbia has Automatic Voter Registration. AVR automatically registers individuals when they apply for or renew a drivers license or nondriver ID card unless the applicant opts out.

Minor Pre-Registration

The District of Columbia allows voters to pre-register at the age of 16.
