Online Voter Registration

Texas does not have online voter registration, but a voter can complete a printable form online and then print, sign, and submit it. You can complete the web form here.

Voter ID

Strict = if no identification, voter must take additional measures after Election Day to have ballot counted

Non-strict = if no identification, voter still has option to cast ballot that may be counted without additional measures by voter

 

Texas has non-strict photo ID requirements. Here are the approved forms of ID in the state of Texas:

  • Texas Driver License issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS)
  • Texas Election Identification Certificate issued by DPS
  • Texas Personal Identification Card issued by DPS
  • Texas Handgun License issued by DPS
  • United States Military Identification Card containing the person’s photograph
  • United States Citizenship Certificate containing the person’s photograph
  • United States Passport (book or card)

Vote-By-Mail

Texas does not have “no-excuse” vote-by-mail.

Early Voting

Texas has in-person early voting. Early voting typically begins 17 days prior to Election Day (unless on a weekend, in which case it begins on the following Monday.) Early voting for elections held in May starts the 12th day before Election Day. Early voting ends 4 days prior to Election Day. Early voting is located at Offices of County Clerk or other locations determined by Clerk (each county has one designated early voting center.) More information early voting is available here.

Automatic Voter Registration (Motor Voter)

Texas has no Automatic Voter Registration.

Minor Pre-Registration

Texas allows individuals who are 17 years and 10 months of age to register to vote.
