Online Voter Registration

North Carolina does not have online voter registration, but a voter can complete a printable form online and then print, sign, and submit it. You can complete the PDF/web form here.

Voter ID

North Carolina has no voter ID requirements.

Vote-By-Mail

North Carolina does have “no-excuse” vote-by-mail. You must request your ballot by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday prior to Election Day. Your ballot must be received by 5:00 p.m. on Election Day or postmarked by Election Day and received by 5:00 p.m. on the 3rd day following Election Day.

Early Voting

North Carolina has in-person early voting. Early voting begins on the third Thursday prior to Election Day (“One-Stop Absentee Voting” or “In-Person Absentee Voting”) and ends the Saturday prior to Election Day. Early voting is located at Offices of County Boards of Elections and satellite “one-stop” voting sites offered by County Boards. More information early voting is available here.

Automatic Voter Registration (Motor Voter)

North Carolina has no Automatic Voter Registration.

Minor Pre-Registration

North Carolina allows voters to pre-register at the age of 16.
