Update on VPC Current Registration Programs

June 26th, 2012

This month, the Voter Participation Center mailed more than 5 million voter registration applications to unmarried women, African-Americans, Latinos and young people under thirty in 27 states.  The response rate has exceeded our expectations — we are averaging 20,000 returned applications per day.

We also learned last week that a few applications went astray, sent to pets whose masters put their names on magazine subscription lists. That story got lots of traction, but frankly obscured the larger story – more than one in three Americans is not registered to vote.
